(Mis)Adventure Log, Day 1&2

Posted in Watermarks in Progress at 10:55 pm by Tamara

“Let me explain….no, there is too much. Let me sum up.” (Name that movie!)

Day One:
Begin driving to South Carolina. Woot!
Find out city hasn’t turned water on at the house
Rock slide in North Carolina and shut-down freeway equal loooong detour
Find out power hasn’t been turned on at house
Crash at hotel, almost 1am

Day Two:
Arrive at adorable(!) house after 4.5 hours of sleep. Woot!
Key doesn’t open front door; find out workers locked all the doors and there are no keys
Locksmith arrives. Woot!
Find out broken windows weren’t replaced
City turns on water, equaling one flooded bathroom/laundry room and minor panic. Praise the Lord water wasn’t turned on before we arrived like it was supposed to be!!! Woot!
Find notice saying sewage service was terminated and sewage will flood house if water is used
Multiple calls to city water, sewage company, etc
Power still off, equaling no heat or lights in the house. Brrrr
Find out moving truck is ahead of schedule and will arrive a day early! Woot!
City turns on power, brand new heating system doesn’t work. Brrrr
Multiple calls to plumber and electrician without getting through
Replace door knobs…unsuccessfully. Front door won’t latch, due to holes drilled incorrectly (not by us!)
Sewage service turned on. Woot!
Kitchen sink is clogged
Toilet continues to leak
Heating company can’t come for 24-48 hours
Cave in and buy little space heater, bringing house to a balmy 48 degrees! Woot!
Prime walls and try out paint samples for living room
Plumber arrives! Woot! Both toilets are broken, 1 shower broken, water heater broken. Not woot.
Decide we love one of the paint samples. Woot!
Supply runs for the day equal: 1 trip to Home Depot, 1 trip to Wal-Mart, 2 trips to Lowes, 3 trips to Target, 1 trip to Chick-fil-A
Decide it’s time to call it a day, THANK THE LORD we have a hotel for the night that has water and heat!!

And thus begins our South Carolina adventure! What can I say—we like to start things off with a bang! But, at the end of the day we didn’t cry once and laughed almost as much as we freaked out, so I’d call this day a success. ;) The best part is that we are still so excited about the house—it’s adorable. Now if we can only keep it from blowing up! I’ll try to post pictures asap. Tomorrow my best friend (since middle school!) is driving down to participate in the madness with us, and I can’t WAIT to see her. Until the next crazy update…have fun storming the castle! Love you guys!
